Essential Life Documents

Get Legal Assistance

One thing is for certain — the future will come whether or not you plan for it. You may not be able to control all of life’s twists and turns, but you can make sure you are prepared for them. We listen to what matters to you, and design a comprehensive Essential Life Documents package customized to your unique needs at a flat fee that you can afford. It includes all four of the following:

  • Adult Power of Attorney

A legal document that authorizes you or an adult of your choosing to make financial, medical, or personal decisions on behalf of your adult child if they become unable to do so.

  • Financial Power of Attorney

A critical legal tool that ensures a trusted individual can safeguard your financial interests and manage essential affairs if you're unable to do so, protecting your assets and financial stability.

  • Healthcare Power of Attorney

A vital legal document that designates a dependable representative to make important medical decisions for you, ensuring your healthcare preferences are honored when you're unable to communicate them.

  • Advance Healthcare Directives

A vital legal document that combines a living will, which specifies your wishes for medical treatments like life support or resuscitation, with the appointment of a healthcare agent to make decisions on your behalf if you are incapacitated.

Power of Attorney
for Young Adults
& Students

The day a child turns 18, the law treats them as an adult. Parents lose automatic access to their medical, financial, and educational records — even in an emergency. The hospital can’t tell you what’s happening. The school can’t share grades or talk to you about a problem. The bank won’t move money on their behalf.

A short set of documents fixes that, without taking anything away from your young adult. Sign them before they leave for college, study abroad, or their first job. If something happens, you can step in.

What's Included

Financial Power of Attorney

Lets a trusted person handle accounts, bills, and financial matters if your young adult can’t.

Healthcare Power of Attorney

Authorizes a parent or other agent to make medical decisions and speak with doctors during an emergency.

Living Will

Records your young adult’s wishes about end-of-life care so no one has to guess.

FERPA Release

Allows the school to share academic records and discuss issues with you.

HIPAA Authorization

Allows medical providers to share health information with you.

Who's the Client, and How It Works

Parents usually start the conversation. But the young adult is the one signing — they are legally the client. The whole point of these documents is that an 18-year-old is now an adult who chooses who gets to act for them. We talk with them directly, walk through what each document does, and make sure they understand what they are granting and to whom.

The process

Schedule a Complimentary 30-Minute Consultation

At Hurwitz.Law, we believe that thoughtful planning begins with a meaningful conversation.

We offer a private, 30-minute consultation—by phone or Zoom—for individuals and families considering estate planning, elder law, or trust administration services. This conversation allows us to understand your goals, answer your questions, and help determine whether our firm is the right fit for your needs.

Our firm is intentionally boutique. We work with a limited number of clients so that we can provide a high level of personal attention and care. If we’re not the right fit, we’ll do our best to point you in the right direction.

This consultation is not a sales pitch. It’s a conversation rooted in clarity, respect, and the belief that your time—and your legacy—deserve both.
